Softball and baseball tournament bracket
Softball and baseball tournaments are almost always double elimination so every team plays at least twice. Time per game and the number of fields decide whether you finish in a weekend.

Entered order is the seeding. Up to 64.
Softball and baseball rules that shape the bracket
- Games run to a time limit (commonly 75 to 90 minutes) or a number of innings.
- Pool play seeding often caps the run differential per game (commonly at 5 to 8 runs) so nobody runs up the score.
- Tiebreakers are usually head to head, then runs allowed, then run differential.
Games and time for common sizes
Time per game is set at 90 minutes and 2 fields. Change either one in the games calculator.
| Field | Games | Court time | Clock time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 teams, double elimination | 10 | 15 h | 10 h 30 min |
| 8 teams, double elimination | 14 | 21 h | 13 h 30 min |
| 12 teams, double elimination | 22 | 33 h | 19 h 30 min |
| 16 teams, pool play (5 pools, top 1 + 3) | 25 | 37 h 30 min | 19 h 30 min |
Which format to use
Eight teams in double elimination is 14 or 15 games; on 2 fields at 90 minutes that is about 11 hours of fields, so most 8-team events run over two days.
For more than 12 teams, seed by pool play on day one and play a double-elimination bracket on day two.
Mark the replayed final "if necessary" and tell parents it may not be played.
Questions
How many fields do I need?
Two fields can run an 8-team double-elimination event in two days. One field needs three.
What is a run-differential cap?
A limit on how many runs of a win count toward tiebreakers, so winning 15 to 0 counts the same as winning by the cap.
