Questions

How many games does a bracket need?

Single elimination takes one game fewer than there are teams. Double elimination takes 2n − 2 games, plus one more if the team from the losers bracket wins the first grand final. A round robin takes n × (n − 1) ÷ 2.

What is a bye?

A bye is a free pass into the next round. It is needed when the number of teams is not a power of two, and it goes to the top seeds.

Which format should I pick?

Use single elimination when time is short, double elimination when one loss should not end a team’s run, and a round robin when every team should play every other, which works up to about ten teams. Swiss suits many players and few rounds; pool play suits twelve or more teams that each need several games.

How do I print a bracket?

Press Print this bracket, choose Letter, A4 or Tabloid, and pick colour or ink saver. Large fields fit better on Tabloid, and the page tells you when to switch.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, and you can print as many brackets as you like.
